Roma communities, especially youth, face serious barriers to accessing digital tools, online learning, and technology-driven career paths. DIGIFAST Project Goals
DIGIFAST is a Hungary-based project with a European perspective, aiming to promote digital inclusion among Roma youth and adults over 30, particularly in small and disadvantaged settlements in Northern Hungary and Southern Transdanubia. In areas where digital exclusion is most severe, DIGIFAST focuses on strengthening digital skills through local learning hubs, modular training materials, educational videos, mentorship, and equipment support. The program places special emphasis on the participation of Roma girls and women to ensure gender-inclusive progress.

Challenges in Education and Digital Access

Limited Access to Digital Tools. Many Roma youths lack access to computers, tablets, or stable internet connections, making participation in online education nearly impossible. In some rural areas, internet connectivity remains a luxury rather than a basic service.
Low Levels of Digital Literacy. Digital skills are essential in today’s labor market, but many Roma youth and adults have limited exposure to technology. Schools in Roma-populated areas often lack the infrastructure and trained personnel to offer meaningful digital education.
Early School Leaving and Technological Disparities. More than 60% of Roma youth leave the formal education system early, often before gaining basic digital competencies. This further marginalizes them in a labor market increasingly shaped by digital tools and platforms.
